Sketch 1
A: I’ve got my trousers on back to front.
Extracted verbatim from the manuscript
A: Augh! B: What’s the matter?
A: I’ve got my trousers on back to front.
B: I’ll take them off. A: No!
In Sketch 1, A has blocked B’s offer (probably, instinctively, to avoid having his trousers taken off!) B’s new potential direction comes to a dead end.
Below, in Sketch 2, both actors ‘offer’ increasingly surreal new avenues and both ‘accept’ them, leading to a satisfying improvised comedy sketch. Well, fairly satisfying. There’s more than a hint of early Monty Python’s Flying Circus in Johnstone’s sketches, which probably reflects the spirit of the times.
